The changes bring this version of BASIC much more in line with Microsoft BASIC. It now has the same mathematical order of precedence. Boolean operators have been replaced with 16-bit signed bitwise operators (true = -1, false =0). Support has been added for long variable names. Existing string slicing is retained, but LEFT$, MID$ and RIGHT$ are now available.

Operators now include backslash (\) for truncated division, MOD and bitwise NOT, AND, OR and XOR (~, & and | are available as shorthand for the first three, along with ? for PRINT).īut SE Basic IV isn’t beyond borrowing from other BASIC dialects. This release adds DPOKE and DPEEK (16-bit versions of POKE and PEEK). The OLD command restores a program previously erased with NEW. The STR$ function is extended to support conversion from base 2 to 36 (encompassing BIN$, HEX$ and OCT$). This can be used to fill a string with a character or even mirror a string. There are also bugfixes, speed ups and other enhancements. For example, a unified detokenizer now gives the same results in listings and in the editor.

#ATARI800MACX WONT EXPAND SOFTWARE#īut even without these, the system is already very usable. If you are running this on a Mac with integrated Intel GMA 950 video (such as a MacBook or the cheapest iMac), be sure to use software rendering (not OpenGL, which it defaulted to on my system) in the Display->Renderer section of Preferences. I recently switched from a PowerBook G4 to a 2 GHz Core Duo MacBook, and I was wondering why certain Atari games I still play (most notably M.U.L.E. and Murder on the Zinderneuf) ran like molasses unless I sped up the emulation speed to at least 150%. That's a bad solution as it then makes other less graphically intensive Atari programs run too fast. As soon as I set the graphics rendering to "Software", all my problems ended. Amazing that a dual-core 2GHz CPU is so hobbled by integrated video that it ran this slower than a 4 year old 1.25 GHz G4 PowerBook with a Radeon 9600 video chipset in OpenGL mode. Those of you with MacBook Pros or desktop Macs other than the lowest-end "educational edition" iMac won't ever see this problem, but a lot of us like the small size of the MacBooks, not to mention the price.Īlso, be very careful with the setting the filepath to the Atari ROMs folder. Setting this up and then moving the "Atari800MacX" application folder into anything other than the main /Applications folder will cause a loss of ability to find the ROMs unless you manually reset the filepathing. No ROMs and Atari800MacX doesn't run at all. Atari ROMs are easy enough to find with Google, but you will have to do it yourself and set a few preferences up before this will work. Variety of USB cables, adapters, and converters, including port expansion and data storage devices. Once things are set up, it's quite easy to use, and runs flawlessly. So I'm wondering what controller you have that requires Game Pad Companion.44 Atari800MacX A Mac A Mac OS X port of Atari800. I also used to have a PS3-lookalike knockoff controller which Atari800MacX also saw and used happily. Atari800MacX sees it and happily uses it without any third-party software. In my case, I have a cheap Chinese knockoff of an NES controller with a USB connector to it. I'm assuming you have a USB game pad since you said you're using Game Pad Companion (which, incidentally, is a terrible bit of software mainly because it hasn't been updated in years) in which case I assume you want (for example) JOYSTICK 1 to be your game pad and JOYSTICK 2 to be LEFT KEYBOARD or NUMERIC KEYPAD.

I just want to know to how to be able to assign one controller to one virtual joystick port, and the second to another so I can play the above mentioned games with two people at once. Options for GAMEPAD 1 (2, 3, or 4) are unavailable (grayed out). However, also in the CONTROLLERS tab you can set JOYSTICK 1 (2, 3, or 4) to various modes, but the only mode available is LEFT KEYBOARD. Under CONTROLLERS you can define keyboard joysticks using LEFT KEYBOARD or NUMERIC KEYPAD, and through those respective buttons you can freely edit the keys assigned to each definition.

In the PREFERENCES window there are tabs for CONTROLLERS and GAMEPADS. I can assign the buttons, pad and joystick to any key on my Mac, but can only seem to assign movement to the Left Keyboard Option in the Controller tab in the 800’s Preferences.
